The Cherokee Maidens with Sycamore Swing
Western Swing rides back into Wichita!!!
Western Swing rides back into Wichita!!!
They croon. They scat. They swing and sing like Bing. Think Bob Wills shaking hands with the Andrews Sisters, then stepping onto a hardwood dance floor under warm stage lights.
After a seven-year hiatus, The Cherokee Maidens reunite for two special nights in Wichita, bringing their signature western swing alongside the irresistible drive of Sycamore Swing. This powerhouse vocal trio blends tight harmonies, playful swing, and timeless charm, all rooted in shared Native American heritage and inspired by Cindy Walker’s 1941 country classic that gave them their name.
The Maidens boast a storied pedigree: one was a Dixie Chick, two have graced A Prairie Home Companion, two have sung on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, and all deliver that straight-as-an-arrow, joy-filled sound praised by The Daily Oklahoman as “a charming, unabashedly throwback.”
Local singer-songwriter and Bartlett Arboretum steward reunites with Red Dirt legend Monica Taylor and bluegrass virtuoso Lauren White, fresh from the Kentucky hollers, with original Maiden Jennifer Melcher joining in for a handful of beloved favorites. Backing them is Sycamore Swing, a troupe of crackerjack musicians led by producer and guitar-slinger Kentucky White, keeping the tradition authentic with nods to the legendary Tulsa Playboys.
Their acclaimed album My Dixie Darling earned three Academy of Western Artists’ Award nominations, including Group, Album, and Best Song for the original “Longing for Tulsa and You.”
